AES50

Post by andyp13 »

Hi chaps.Im using a X32 rack along with an S16 connected to AES50-A. I also have a DP48 connected to the x32 AES50-B. I also have another S16 which I would like to put in my rack (at the back) to make it easier to access the XLR ins and L&R out etc...However I would like to keep chans 9 - 16 Active in the x32 Rack as I have my uTrack connected to it (click tracks). so I only need 8 chans (and two outs on the 2nd S16 to be active).
Also where would my DP48 go? as im using both AES50 A & B on the 2nd S16 to connect the x32 Rack the other s16. Could it go into the spare AES50-B available on the x32rack.

so it will be set up as X32 rack (using ins 9-16) AES50 A Out to A-IN on S16 (using ins 1-8, and 2 x outs). AES50 B out to second S16.

Hope Iv explained this ok.

I feel that you are confusing the AES50 setup and the routing a bit. They are related, but separated topics and should be treated as such.

So first step, you AES50 connections. The S16's can be daisychained, you can connect the second S16 (port A) to port B of the first S16. So X32 Rack AES50-A goes to the S16 #1 (the one in your rack) AES50-A port. Then the S16 #1 AES50-B port goes to the S16 #2 (the one on stage) AES50-A port.
The X32 Rack AES50-B goes to the DP48 AES50-A port.

Next you need to configure the output ports of that S16 #2 to start at 9 (it is a config option on the S16). Now your X32 Rack can see all inputs and outputs connected to it.

Then the second step, routing. With firmware version 4 you can have 1-1 routing if needed, but I think you might not even be needing that here. First patch where your inputs are coming from. Pick local inputs or on AES50-A inputs 1-16 will be from S16 #1 and inputs 17-32 will be from S16 #2.
Finally the outputs, if the blocks of 8 are too limiting you can create a user out mapping and use that to have 1 on 1 mappings.
