The Dante Via features chart says:
Up to 32 x 32 channels from connected audio hardware devices
16 x 16 channels per audio application
Up to 48 x 48 channels total
48 kHz sample rate, 24 bit sample depth
Windows audio devices: ASIO or WDM
Mac audio devices: Core Audio
So, am I interpreting this correctly? With Via, I can:
Connect 32 x 32 channels from my X-Dante card to the Dante Audio Network, plus
Connect 16 x 16 channels of audio applications for a total of 48 x 48 channels to the Dante Audio Network.
Does this mean that with the X32, I don't need to run DVS, but I could run Via instead and get the 32 x 32 Dante channels plus the 16 x 16 channels of USB/PC apps to connect to the Dante network?

Re: Question About Dante Via
@MJKlein i think it’s 16 ch’s per device, which means only 16 from x32, 48 total..I should know this but I have not used my version in a while, I’ll check tomorrow and see.
Re: Question About Dante Via
The 16 channel limitation is why I did not buy the bundle when I got DVS. But, I went back and took another look and saw the "Up to 32 x 32 channels from connected audio hardware devices" part. I *think what they are saying is, if you have a hardware Dante device you can connect 32 x 32 channels, and then add 16 x 16 channels of software/USB stuff to the network.
Can one of you Dante gurus confirm/deny this please?

Re: Question About Dante Via
@MJKlein Sorry, I never got to it yesterday but will look asap. I never used it much because it can't be used along with DVS, it's one or the other. You also probably know you don't need a Dante card with Via to use it. Having 64 ch's to play with in a Wing-Dante setup via DVS keeps me from it these days.
Re: Question About Dante Via
Yes. I my case I want add USB devices to the Dante network, if possible, while having 32 x 32 for the X-Dante card. Their wording is confusing.GaryH wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 10:47 am @MJKlein Sorry, I never got to it yesterday but will look asap. Re: Question About Dante Via
@MJKlein I didn't forget. Hope someone else can shine a light. I'm still pretty sure its limited to 16 ch per device. I could not get the X32 to be recognized at all as a source or destination in Via...however I have an odd setup at present and don't want to upset the entire apple cart. I will look more closely later. I should see some X32 something with an X-Dante card..but I'm not.
EDIT: I just needed to update Via. OK, when I open my DAW I only get 8 stereo/16 mono options so i think its 16 ch per device.

Re: Question About Dante Via
Thanks @GaryH. I wish I could get Via and DVS in one product. I sure would like to know what they meant by 32 x 32. I asked them but so far, nothing.

Re: Question About Dante Via
Alright, I got an answer from Audinate:
"Hello MJ,
Thanks for your email and apologies to hear there's some confusion.
Dante Via supports 16 software channels (because it's a 16 channel soundcard), so from an x32 with 32 channels, you could only send 16 channels to a software application and 16 channels from a software application. You cannot send 32 channels to and from software.
When it says 32 channels for hardware, this is 32 channels to and from a local audio interface going to a Dante network.
You could connect 32 channels for hardware only, and 16 channels for software, which would give a total of 48 channels.
I hope this clears things up. If you have any further questions let me know."
---
Where any software is involved, it's 16 channels. So, if used to connect to Reaper, it's 16 channels. However, if used to connect to a hardware interface, it's 32 channels. You could interconnect 16 channels of software to 32 channels of hardware.
If I was using the X-Dante card to connect to another Dante audio interface on the network I could utilize all 32 channels, but, only 16 channels with Reaper.
