Behringer QX2442 USB / Xenyx 2442FX Mixer - Confusing Ports / Jacks for AUX Sends and FX Outs

Post by ssimlai »

Hi

I have two of these machines:

1. Behringer QX2442 USB
2. Xenyx 2442FX Mixer

While trying to wire up, I came across a port called FX Out, besides a set of AUX Sends, of which I couldn't find any description in the manual that would help me remove the confusion as what really is the difference between the two. Isn't is also an AUX Send?

Anyone, please help understand.

Thanks in advance.

Sort of, but different. The Aux 3 mixbus has a dual functionality. It can be used as a standard mixbus to feed monitor wedges, etc. But it also feeds the FX engine. The resulting signal (called a wet signal) is outputted via this FX Out jack.

I've never seen one, but the manual for the 16-24 port Xenyx units is the same. The 2442 actually has the 4 aux out ports, and there is some funky switching going on where FX/Aux 3 return EITHER gives you AUX 3 inputs as FX if nothing is plugged in, OR a 4th stereo "return" or input. This works in this manner across most of their "larger" Xenyx units.

2442FX has an extra trick up it's sleeve, though - shared with one other - the 22 port one ?? Anyway, they actually have an FX-OUT jack, which is the OUTPUT of the internal effects unit. So, for the mixers that don't have direct support for sending effects to stage monitors... You can actually use a spare INPUT on the board, and connect that FX-OUT to it; and if it was line input on a channel strip, then from there can route it to, say, AUX1 or AUX3 or a submix (or ALL of them! ) to get effects to the stage monitors of IEM monitoring if you allocate one or more AUX outputs for that purpose. Just watch you don't send that channel BACK to the effects unit.
