SD16 - Lost half our mic inputs (the second row)

Post by it-helpCELC »

We use an SD16 connected to our x32 at our church. Yesterday, half of the mic inputs (basically the second row of inputs) were dead when we went to get ready for the service. The first row was fine. It appears that all of the mic inputs in the second row were dead. I did the usual first troubleshooting action of power cycling both the stage box and the x32, but this did not resolve it. I did not have the time to do more troubleshooting yesterday, but thought I would ask the forum whether anyone had seen this problem.

I suspect that it is a failure of a component in the stage box itself as that seems to be the common point of the failure. I am going to try to temporarily connect an alternative ethernet cable in case it is the cable (although I don't think an ethernet cable problem would have this kind of effect). I am also doubtful that it is a problem in x32.

We purchased the stage box unit in February 2023, so I think it may still be under warranty. The x32 is much older (I believe it was purchased in 2012 but before my time here at the church). I will be contacting Behringer and Sweetwater to get their input.

Welcome to our forum. Before contacting Behringer or Sweetwater, double check your input routing (Routing, Inputs) to make sure they are correct. For example, if the S16 is connected to the AES50 A port of the X32, two of the input blocks should be assigned:
* Inputs 1-8 -> AES50 A1-8
* Inputs 9-16 -> AES50 A9-16
Also make sure the sources of the channel strips for the second S16 row have the correct assignments.

Thanks for the input. I will double check that. We were using our normal stored "scene" we use on the X32 for service and refreshed the scene (and tried a couple of older scenes) none of which changed the behavior. In our situation, we almost never change any of our routing. However, it is not something we directly looked at so will definitely look at. Thanks for the suggestion.

resolved - Paul - thanks for pointing me in right direction.

Not sure how the routing got changed (may need some more training for our sound teams). Also, the "routing safe" had somehow been set on our usual scene which explains why restoring our usual scene did not clear the problem. Once I cleared the "routing safe" and restored our usual scene, all of the mics were working again. I still am not sure why the routing was changed in the first place.

Sorry to have bothered the forum with this.
