Enable Email Notifications As Default

It's been a while since I setup my account but it doesn't appear that the default board preferences have email notifications enabled as the default. I hadn't been on the forum in a while and I didn't know that someone had replied to a post I had made because I didn't have email notifications for replies checked.

I'd suggest email notifications for all and let the user tone them down if need be.

Hey Ken @kmitchell, great suggestion. I had a look in the back end and didn't see where we could change the default to receive reply notification. Maybe @pmaillot or @MJKlein can see it.

It looks like this has to be set individually. I can imagine that 1000s or even 10sx1000s of emails sent per day would significantly drive up the data usage on major boards.

It's too bad that can't be set as default. I wonder how many new users post a question and then don't come back due to not receiving notification of a reply? Maybe (hopefully) less than I think.

There's a mod/addon, called "Board Watch" that could be added I guess, and one has to register to what email notification to receive, I don't know if that's a good solution, and if the notifications are sufficiently 'filtered' so one gets only interesting data.

Well, if someone posts a question and doesn't come back to check on it, I would guess that getting an answer it not a priority for them.

Believe it or not there are more than 50 account that were never activated. Sometimes users sign up and forget about it. I suspect that they sign up and then continue looking for an answer on YouTube, never to return.

That's cool. Everyone is welcome regardless of their participation level. Some are embarrassed because of language issues too.
