DP48 Stand Alone

Post by GaryH »

DP48 stand alone:

1 Enable stand alone operation on the DP48 then choose a sample rate 48 or 44k

2 Use a DL16 or S16 or a Blue box Midas stagebox that has ON BOARD preamp control-connect via aes50.

3 The inputs will be available to include via Select/Edit in any group 1-12 either as a single input or as a group of inputs-like a submix.

4 Gain adjusted on the stagebox itself.

5 All editing of groups as per usual eq compression reverb etc

6 Full recording to SD card as per usual.

7 Stagebox xlr 1/2 are the main outs for the DP48!

@Wader Its for using the DP48 withou a (bigger) mixer. Use it and a stagebox and it becomes a small self contained 16 ch stereo mixer.

You need to clarify that, Gary. It only works with the S16 and DL16 that provides the wordclock (modes 11 and 12). It does not work with the S32, DL32, SD8 or SD16.

@pvannatto

AFAIK mode 11/12 on the S/DL16 is for Daisy Chain Master and use with a console set as a slave or with a USB DN9630 and DAW.
I believe when the DP48 is set to Standalone mode it becomes the master clock.

Quoted from the DP48 firmware version 1.2

“Stand-alone mode can now be used with AES50 stage-boxes such as DL32 or DL16 “

The real wildcard here is the stage box needs to have onboard preamp control (mentioned in #2 of my original post) The DP48 can’t adjust connected stage box preamps on its own. Even though they do mention a DL32 in the firmware as working, a S/DL32 won’t work because it has no onboard preamp control of its own. The DP will work with the S16, DL16 and “Blue” series Midas stage boxes that have a preamp control onboard. As you noted, the SD boxes will not work either.

@GaryH, yes I think you are correct. I was confusing the DN9630 requirements with that of the DP48 (must be my old age kickin in).
