X32Reaper on M32 4.09

Post by BFlat »

Hi,

I recently got an M32 and now trying to get a good setup with reaper.
I came accros X32Reaper and just discovered the impressive work Patrick-Gilles has done !
Unfortunately i just don't manage to get X32Reaper working...
What would be the simplest way to validate my config ?

My first goal would be to move a simple fader on the console ....

Thank you for your help.

Didier.

Update: What is the osc port used by the console ? 1023 or 1025 as it is written on the X32Reaper configuration examples ? Or X32Reaper is comuncating on UDP 1023 to the console and ports define on Gui are only for proxy communication ?
In my case the GUI shows "running" with any value in "device port"
I double checked the listen and send ports in reaper configuration but still nothing.
Reaper is 6.79 x64 with sws 2.12.1.3
X32Reaper 2.82
Are there any configuration to do on reaper beside The Osc configuration ?
Anything to activate on console ?
(The M32-edit program works fine from the same computer)

Hello and welcome. The most common mistake, despite making it clear in the documentation is a mixup in IP addresses.

The "Device" IP address you need to set in REAPER when using X32Reaper, is the address of your PC, because X32Reaper is the device as seen from REAPER. And it's only in X32Reaper config file that you set the IP of the X32.

It's been a very long time I've used the application myself, but you should be able to get more details on what may be wrong using the debug flag, and looking at the contents of the log file if one is generated. It's a rather complex app, doing all sorts of things, so with no mre detail from what happens/what you see/what you set as options and flags, it's difficult to tell you what to look for.

Hello Patrick,

Thank you very much for your quick answer.
As i explained in my post update, il looks like a network issue but i am shure the ips are ok and i doubled checked this.
I run X32Reaper on windows GUI. The debug flag has to be activated on CLI ?

Merci beaucoup

Didier.

It has to be set in the .X32Reaper.ini resource file the program reads when it starts. It's the 'verbose" flag, just after the X and Y coordinates, on the 1st line of the file, change the 0 to a 1.

But again, You do not see anything at all happening? You've set the .REAPEROSC file? have you tried tracing what REAPER is receiving in the REAPER (OSC) Control Surface Settings, when you enable the "Listen" flag?

The log looks fine for communication with the console. But no trace of communication with Reaper...
In reaper nothing in the listen window..
Both applications are authorised in Windows 10 firewall. (I will try to desactivate totaly to test...)
The Ips are correct 10.0.1.2 for the Pc and reaper (so 10.0.1.2 in both listen and send in Reaper)
The X32.reaperosc file is in the Reaper osc directory

Merci !
Didier.

So obviously there's nothing received from X32Reaper from the X32. I guess you attempted to move X32 faders for ex during your test session.

Is at least the x32 user assign bank C setup changing when you connect?

There's definitely a network issue somewhere it seems

Hey @BFlat if you think X32Reaper is cool, you need to see what X32ReaperAutoMate can do. Instead of just controlling the DAW, you can automate your mixing on the X32 using the audio engines. Otherwise X32Reaper turns your X32 into a giant (and expensive) X-Touch. Nothing wrong with that of course. I prefer mixing in the console and minimal manipulation with the DAW controls.

I will try to understand what happens.
@Patrick in the log file the console replies at connection time giving the firmare info, am i wrong ?
update: i only moved reaper faders but not X"2. When moving them, i get commands in the log and these commands are shown as being send to reaper, but nothing in Reaper. So i think the issue is Reaper<->X32Reaper communication ...
This is a wifi connection, i will connect with a cable to try.
Is it possible to indicate 127.0.01 as device adress ?
Expect the OSC configuration in Reaper, there is nothing else to setup ? Same on console Side ? nothing else ?
@MJKlein by the the moment I evaluate the possibilities of the console. I was disapointed to see that only 8 channels could be controled as a daw remote.
X32Reaper seemed to be the way to go over that limitation.
I will evaluate X32automate and X32ReaperAutomate to see if i get the same issue

Didier.

It works now ....
I ran across wireshark, captured all traffic and then i realized how dumb i was .....
My STUPID mistake was : working with 1025 and 1027 ports in Reaper .... I just ommited a zero .... so stupid !!! And it was so big that i didn't see it !!
I apologize for the time you spent for me !
@MJklein , tried to register on x32ram.com to evaluate the sofware but i didn't receive activation mail...

Merci beaucoup.

Arf! Glad you found what the issue was. There was no reason for yhe SW not to work. Dozens of other people seem enjoying it.

X32ReaperAutomate brings mixing and automation to another level, as MJ (he's a big fan :-)) mentioned. I saw you registered as a new member at x32ram.com. You can check (videos, doc, forum an eval version) what the Automate apps can do and decide by yourself.

Happy you have X32Reaper ok for now.
