"The next thing you'll want to get is 2 Dante cards so you can have the full 96 channels of mixing from the DAW."

That fascinates me. I thought the board only supported 48 mono or stereo channels.
Would the dual Dantes somehow expand the channel count or just offer more sources?
Thanks!

It would just add more sources

The terminology gets confusing a bit. You always have the same, fixed number of channel strips, but with 2 cards you can bring in stereo sources for each channel strip, for a total of 96 sources. You could configure a DAW with 48 stereo tracks and either record mono sources on each track like bass or vocal, but also record stereo sources like keyboards and FX on stereo tracks with each DAW track on a single channel strip and fader, regardless of stereo or mono.

Soundgood the audio quality of the WING rivals desks costing 10x as much. I have done several recordings of our inhouse Wurlitzer theater organ (https://thehanovertheatre.org/mightywurlitzer/) using both the WING at 48k and a PreSonus® Studio 1824c @ 192k to both Protools and StudioOne with some top of the line Telefunken mics, and in all cases the quality from the WING is equal to that from the Presonus. You can hear the results on this recording released last summer, all the Wurlitzer recordings were done thru the WING.

You can preview the tracks here. Note that on all tracks there is NO artificial environment, all reverbs are natural acoustics of the room recorded in.

Hey Humhead... Thanks for sending the link to the tracks.
Beautiful sounds!
I love the natural reverb.
It feels like Christmas all over again.

My Wing journey continues.
The first one I got would shut down after about 15 minutes with a loud pop.
The second one is much better and I'm slowly finding my way around the architecture.
I'm coming from a Tascam board and so far, the Wing sounds as good or better.
The flexibility is remarkable.

I had that issue and found the cause to be taxing the processor by either loading snapshots with lots of changes via snippets linked to snapshot, or playing back audio files via snippets also snapshot linked. Seems the WING limiation is in it's processing power, and like any computer, ask it to do more than it can it will often freeze and shut down with a loud pop.

That's not encouraging, since one of the highly-touted features of the new WING is it's procession power, which was specifically pointed out as a direct comparison with the X32.

I brought this to the attention of the developers and the reply I got was -

"Never had any issues with loud pop or whatever. This cannot be caused by any overload (technically). The processor (CPU) is only used for the user interface and for USB stick playback/record. Anything else is processed in separate DSPs. I guess this guy has a defective console or he should file a bug report with details on how to reproduce the fault.

As a further detail, the DSPs cannot be overloaded."

That's good to note. I've loaded mine up with channel processing for a few shows and never found mine to struggle even with emulations on most channel fx and all racks full.

Same here, and trust me when one loads several snapshots in less than 1 seconde under WingWLiveAutomate, this can generate a lot of changes. Back in FW version 1.0x, there's been an issue where the commands would eventually pile up and slow [not stop] processing speed, but that has been solved for 2 years now.
