Loud fan on Wing

Post by Soundgood »

I'm settling in on my new Wing console.

On startup, the fan makes a loud whooshing sound and then stops.
When the console warms up. the fan whooshes again and then continues to blow in a distractingly loud whir.
Sort of sounds like a refrigerator compressor.
In a studio environment this is not good.

Are they all like this?
Did I get a defective board?

Thanks

Sounds like it’s defective to me. If brand new I would replace the desk. I am all but unaware mine has a fan, to me it’s pretty quiet

Man, what a pain in the neck. Why is it too much to ask for the distributor to open the box and check for things like a loud fan, ghost touches, etc.? In Taiwan, when you buy a high-dollar item, the seller opens it up for you at the store and personally checks everything together with you. They normally turn on the device and set the language for you if you need. The seller then fills out the warranty card information and stamps it to verify that the sale is legit, through a proper dealer. I used to think that was an inconvenience, but after I had to return something and it was entirely hassle free, I came to appreciate the extra time spent in checking the product out right at the point of sale.

OK... this is really strange! Received our WING from Sweetwater just today. We also have a loud fan. Sounds like a diesel truck idling when it's on. Guess I'll have to return it and get another.

I hope they haven't changed up fan parts and gone with a louder higher cfm unit to keep the desk cooler in hot outdoor environments.

I wouldn't think so. Early on we discussed with the devs how to lower the [old/current] fan speed. A single resistor value change. Not something you'd do when under warranty.

Oh no!
That's worrisome.
I'm having my console replaced and I hope all the new ones don't have the same issue.
My studio is super quiet and every time the fan comes on I jump.
Maybe O.K. for live sound, but not in a quiet environment.

I had a new Wing from Sweetwater that I had to return because of the fan being so loud. The replacement was quiet, but the big knob is "stiff". Otherwise, it works perfectly.
