Hi
Bit of a long shot here. I’m on 4.06.
Can the Main LR fader be repurposed?
Ideally I’d like it to be a DCA master for a bunch of Matrices but I don’t think this is possible (with 4.06 I have set up a normal DCA to do this).
As I’m outputting various bus mixes via matrices the Main LR fader is a bit of a ‘waste’ since it’s only there to get stuff from Main LR (including FX returns, see other post) into my matrices.
Maybe this would be an enhancement request for Music Group although it’s probably getting a bit late in the product life for this, and I suspect others way ahead of me have already asked!
Thanks for any ideas!
Repurpose Main fader as Matrix DCA
Re: Repurpose Main fader as Matrix DCA
I wanted to do the same thing (use the L/R as a 9th DCA as the overall master) but I never could find a way to do it. I use DCA-8 and have the scribble strip red so it sticks out. When using the M32 I use the matrix outputs as my sends to the house speakers even if I am just using a left and right speaker setup.
I did setup a church’s X32 to have some of the inputs go directly to the L/R but most of them go to Mix Bus(es) and those Mix Bus(es) then will go to the L/R and then the L/R goes to the Matrix(es). I use the Mix Bus(es) as variable sub groups for things like sub mixing the vocal mics with an EQ on that Mix Bus for gain before feedback thus saving the channel EQ for EQing the individual’s mic if needed. This type of setup gives me the ability to send a group at different levels to the different matrix sends. For example if I have front fill speakers for a concert and there is enough level coming off of the stage from some of the things and I might not need much if any acoustic drums and other instruments with amps in the front fills, I can send less of those Mix Bus(es) to the Matrix that is feeding the front fills.
But in my systems (when using an M32) I only use the L/R as a sub master for any Playback. Particularly for when I am doing Musical Theater, I will use it as my Sound Effects master. But lately I have been using a WING for those shows and even for concert work which gives me much more flexibility in how I can set it up.

Re: Repurpose Main fader as Matrix DCA
Hey @kgallen, I can think of 2 solutions to what you want to accomplish.
1. Use an external app, such as Mixing Station (for tablets, Windows PC) or X32-Edit (for Mac, Windows, linux, Raspberry Pi) and create a custom layer.
2. Get a Wing.

Thanks both @KMaxwell, @pvannatto for your replies here. You gave me great inspiration to solve the query I had on FX return into matrix.
Sorry Paul, a Wing would be out of the question. The wife would kill me!
Actually the reason for the X32 Compact is I have very little workspace at the theatre - and I do lighting too...! A Wing would never fit!
Regards this, I have DCA4 set as my overall FOH master which works fine. It just seems a shame that LR master fader is going to waste...! However, since on the other thread I need to rework my bus split into Main, it will actually become a useful "All Mics (+FX)" Master
