cannot get a decent recording level with UMC1820

Post by Barry Hill »

Hi

I have set up my UMC1820 as a USB interface with my mac mini and running Logic Pro X. I am using a Neuman TLM-103 wit phantom power enabled.

I think I may be missing something, but when I record a spoken vocal track the only way I can get a decent recording level is to push the Logic record level and the UMC channel gain control to maximum. There is then a reasonable wave form on the track, but nowhere near what I was getting when I used my old sound card.

When I was running another sound card, I usually set my Logic record level to about half around the dial. Since using the UMC as my audio in/out device in Logic, I notice that I have to set the level to nearly maximum to get a decent wave form and recording.

Any ideas as to what I might be missing?

ps I notice there is a main out dial on the UMC with Dim and Mute. I am unsure what these are for, and they seem to have no effect on the recording level.
