Velvet Imager Settings Explained

Post by pvannatto »

Wing firmware 1.11 introduced some new FX plugins. This explains the settings of the Velvet Imager

Mode
(K-Stereo,Velvet)
  • K-Stereo – This is a renowned method developed by Bob Katz. It adds subtle reflections that create an artificial stereo effect.
  • Velvet – This method uses Velvet-Noise to decorrelate the left and right channel. It randomizes the phase of frequency components which creates a stereo impression with minimum coloration.
Deep
(On,Off)
  • K-Stereo: In Deep mode, more reflections are added.
  • Velvet: In Deep mode the effect is more pronounced.
MS-Width
(Continuous -1 to 1)
  • Simple One-Knob Stereo Width adjustment. This can be used to reduce or enhance the stereo content of audio source material
Stereoize
(Continuous 0.00% to 100.0%)
  • Simple Stereoizer function. This adds artificial stereo impression (ambience) for mono audio signals.
  • TIP: In Velvet mode with 100% Stereoize setting the two output channels can be used to feed different speakers in order to minimize phase cancellation effects.
Gain
(Continuous -6db to 6db)

Thanks Paul! Would be nice if all the fx had "manuals" like this. Some not so obvious as to what does what.

It's probably the first time B gives that level of details on an effect! :)

Yes it was a bit surprising that they provided that info. A few years ago (I think on the old forum) someone posted a summary of the X32 FX. Was it George Dougherty? I'll see if I can find it (wish me luck with that stupid search engine).

:edit: Found it and it was George's post, but it summarized all of the Wing FX. I'll try and copy it and paste it into a post here.

A summary of the X32 FX would be useful.

It is quite well explained in the M32 User Manual - available under Documentation on the Product Page.

Currently using the Imager on my vocal buss live. The effect seemed more pronounced when using it on prerecorded tracks but is still pleasant live. Try it you'll like it.

Thanks @Grizzlybear1979. Haven't had a chance to use it live yet (still in partial covid-19 lockdown here in Ontario, Canada), but have played with it using prerecorded tracks. It's like spit-polishing a vocal :)
